Review of the IHF 2025
From 3 to 5 December 2025, the 29th International Wood Construction Forum (IHF) took place at Congress Innsbruck. Under the motto ‘From practice – for practice’, the event once again became the central meeting place for the international wood construction industry. More than 3.000 experts from the fields of craftsmanship, engineering, research, architecture and industry exchanged ideas on current developments, challenges and innovations. The ambitious programme included specialist presentations on topics such as grey energy, resource availability and biodiversity-oriented project development. The programme was complemented by a trade exhibition with over 200 exhibitors presenting their latest products and technologies on four levels. Discussion forums, specialist sessions and the ‘Master Colloquium’, in which graduates from relevant universities presented their projects, rounded off the event.
A highlight for the wood construction industry
The congress began on Wednesday morning with a high-profile opening session entitled ‘Housing industry – will the proportion of timber construction continue to rise?’ The rest of the programme was divided into five parallel PROLOG formats, which highlighted various topics such as architecture, prefabricated construction, timber house construction, connection technology, and health and well-being. On Thursday, the focus was on the political, economic and social conditions for wood construction. International projects demonstrated the diversity of modern timber structures, while the ‘Wood Construction Development’ section presented the latest advances in research and industry. The evening provided an opportunity for guest lectures and honours for distinguished personalities in the industry. Friday was traditionally devoted to construction practice. The focus was on highlights from civil engineering, innovative hall construction and multi-storey projects worldwide. The event concluded with an epilogue to the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, which addressed Japan's approach to circular timber construction and international cooperation.
